The Client: American Express

Since its founding in 1850, American Express has established a true global presence in a broad range of travel and financial services. Operating in more than 130 countries and with more than 75,000 employees, they present one of the most impressive IT footprints in the corporate arena.

The Challenge

The challenge at American Express was not only getting an accurate inventory count on all communications equipment at offices/centers in 78 different cities, but doing it in just 30 days (from start to finish) and providing a detailed floor plan for each location that pinpoints where the hubs, routers, switches and other equipment are located.

The Solution

Because Asset Inventories has a large team of specialists trained and ready to go at all times, it is the only company that could assure American Express and its third-party service provider that they would accomplish the objectives accurately and on time.

Working closely with the internal team established at American Express, the 21-day pre-inventory checklist was compressed into just 10 days, and AI inventory specialists were issued travel documents and credit cards in record time. The team spread out across the globe, equipped with laptop computers and highly specialized software applications so that they could complete the inventories and gather the necessary information before moving on to the next location.

The result was an accurate inventory worldwide, reported on a consolidated basis to American Express management, with backup information that included details down to the floor-plan level at each location.
