The Client: Transportation Safety Administration
The Transportation Security Administration, or “TSA” as it is known, was created with the passage of the Aviation and Transportation Security Act, signed into law by the president on November 19, 2001. TSA is charged with responsibility for the security of the nation’s air and rail transportation systems. With a budget of more than $5 billion and more than 300 North American locations, it was immediately in possession of more than 60,000 IT hardware and software assets distributed throughout the system.
The Challenge
In an environment of increasing staff (and supporting IT assets), and without interrupting its vital mission, TSA needed to assume control of its internal communications infrastructure, ensure that the equipment was adequate to support its mission, and centralize the help desk management function.
The Solution
Asset Inventories was engaged through a third-party service provider to complete the inventory promptly, efficiently and accurately. Teams of AI specialists were deployed to all TSA locations – including every airport in the United States – and a comprehensive listing of assets was delivered and reported to TSA management and staff.
As a result of the thorough inventory, TSA was able to dramatically improve the return on its assets employed, upgrade functionality in virtually every location, and secure a cost-effective help desk contract that satisfied its needs.
Testimonials
We were faced with a real challenge. There were more than 300 high-security locations all over the country, and we had to meet a tight timetable. But we were able to complete the project on time, largely because we spent the time up-front planning and scheduling the job, and letting everyone at the TSA know exactly what to expect, and when to expect it. We had a great team, and it all worked out just the way it was supposed to. The client was really pleased with what we delivered.J.D., AI Team Leader after completing an exhaustive asset inventory covering 612 locations for The Transportation Security Administration
